Sir, — A huge mound of garbage has been lying on the road next to Seshadripuram College, First Cross, N.S. Iyengar Street . Repeated complaints to the Health Department of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike have not yielded any result. Most of this garbage is waste from the nearby hotels. The volume of garbage is increasing by the day. It not only stinks but also has become a home for rodents and stray dogs. I request the authorities to address this problem immediately. Vineet Gopa, Bangalore Empower LokayuktaSir, — The shortage of funds to run the administration in government departments is common. However, the Lokayukta has been doing his best to unearth the ill-gotten money from corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. The money seized by the Lokayukta can better be utilised for development activities in the State. Successive governments in Karnataka have not empowered the Lokayukta to prosecute the guilty. It is hoped that the Government takes a right step forward in this regard. B.S. Raghavendra Rao, Bangalore New airportSir, — The hue and cry over the closure of HAL Airport seems to be unnecessary. The Government and the people are allowing a mountain to be made out of a mole-hill. One needs to see and evaluate the situation in its entirety and not just jump to conclusions. At present, the old Airport Road is a joy to drive through. Despite the still heavy traffic on that road, the vehicles there at least move now. The new airport is well connected with Volvo buses, taxis and such other vehicles, which nullifies the argument on distance. It appears that there is some vested interest in keeping the HAL Airport open, and distance is just used as an excuse.
