Thiruvananthapuram: The Latheen Catholikka Aikyavedi (United Front of Latin Catholics) has expressed strong protest against the decision by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to levy additional cash deposit from consumers in the coastal belt. The State committee of the front, which met here on Sunday, said the impoverished families in the coastal areas were asked to remit amounts ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 4,000. The leaders of the front said the KSEB should instead have returned the accumulated interest on the initial deposit collected from them. They alleged that the move was aimed at overcoming the board’s financial crisis and mobilising resources to pay bonus. The meeting warned that the front would launch an agitation if the board failed to withdraw the undeclared load-shedding and the additional cash deposit.
