Karimnagar
Connectivity disrupted: Karimnagar - Jagtial road was cut off following incessant rains at Poduru village in Kodimial mandal.(Right) Main link between Devarakonda and Nalgonda was washed away in Kanagal vaagu in Nalgonda district on Sunday.
KARIMNAGAR: The incessant rain since last three days wreaked havoc in various parts of Karimnagar district with the inundation of several low-lying areas, submergence of standing crops, destruction of roads, house collapses and so on. On the other hand, the rains had bought cheers to the farming community with the filling up of several minor irrigation tanks. The Upper Manair Dam (UMD) in the upland Narmal village of Gambhiraopeta mandal received copious inflows into the project and the surplus water was overflowing from the project. The Manair and Mulavagu rivulets in the upland Sircilla division overflowed following the heavy rains in the catchment areas. In a freak accident, a youth was killed when a tree fell on him while he was travelling on his vehicle in Mallapur village of Dharmaram mandal on Sunday. Around 16 villages have been disconnected from the rest of the world following the overflowing of small rivulets at Ambetpalli village of Mahadevpur mandal. Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania visited the flood affected Ambetpalli village and inspected the overflowing Peddavagu, which connected about 16 villages. He said that they would open a relief camp at the government school in Ambetpalli village. They would provide food, water, bed sheets and so on to the villagers. Relief workAdilabad Staff Reporter adds: The intensity of the rainfall might have looked like reducing yet it kept on throwing normal life somewhat out of gear even on Sunday. Relief work was carried on mostly by private organisations whereas victims of floods of last week continued alleging the no governmental help had reached them despite Adilabad MLA C. Ramchander Reddy and Sirpur MLA Koneru Konappa involving themselves in distributing relief material in respective constituencies. Mr. C. Ramchander Reddy visited the Gandhinagar and Hanumannagar colonies and distributed clothing and food material among the flood victims. Besides, organisations like the Adilabad cloth merchants association and chamber of commerce disbursed clothing and cooking utensils. More such help is in the pipeline. Meanwhile, the Gollavagu, Rallivagu, Vattivagu and Mattadivagu in Adilabad district continued to get heavy inflows. The gates of Kadem project were closed following ease in the quantum of inflows on Sunday. Danger levelNizamabad Staff Reporter adds: All medium and minor irrigation projects, tanks and kuntas in the district brimmed with waters and major projects like Sri Ram Sagar and Nizam Sagar are receiving considerable amount of inflows. Gates of Pocharam, Koulasnala, Singeetam and Ramadugu were opened as water reached full reservoir level. Meanwhile, there has been an unabated rain across the district. However, no damages or casualties due to rains were reported. Reports reaching here said 12 holidaymakers who were stranded at Pocharam guesthouse as water level reached danger level, since last night were rescued by Revenue and Police officials and local people. They were ferried back to the shore in this afternoon.
