Spreading Vemana’s wisdom

Appropos ‘Plucky balladeer spreading Vemana’s wisdom’ (The Hindu dated 10/7). The Telugu University should think of felicitating S. Mahesh who deserves kudos for rendering 300 poems of Vemana. The compilation of poems into cassettes will certainly spread Vemana’s greatness to foreign countries also.

Tips to ease traffic congestion

I suggest the following points for free flow of traffic on the city roads. APSRTC can run mini buses from and to the colonies. This will reduce the use of private vehicles by the commuters. The frequency of MMTS local can be increased. They can also start these trains in new routes. The railways and APSRTC can have an arrangement to issue common tickets .

Politics of appeasement

For the year 2008-09, the Government of India is giving 20,000 scholarships. Muslims will get 14,585, Christians 2,540, Sikhs 2,028, Buddhists 840 and Parsis 7. The largest number 3,245 for Muslims is in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Muslims of West Bengal 2,436 and 1,084 in Maharashtra. Punjab is a Sikh majority state and Hindus are a minority. Similarly Hindus and Buddhists are minorities in Jammu & Kashmir. In Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya Christians are majority and Hindus a minority. Where ever Hindus are in a minority, they are not entitled to scholarships! This is the ugly face of a communally ‘secular’ Congress led UPA Government. All parties are for appeasing minorities.
