Supreme Court Bench in South sought

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Voters Awareness Forum, headed by N.G. Karatgi, has urged Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to speak to the Chief Ministers of the southern States and the Union Government and impress upon them the need for a Bench of the Supreme Court in South India.

Mr. Karatgi, who has been organising the people of the State on this issue, told the Chief Minister that a south India Bench of the Supreme Court will go a long way in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country apart from safeguarding democracy.

The southern States should be united in their demand for the Bench which could be established in the capital of any State.

He said that in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the forum will extend support to any political party which promises to get a Bench of the Supreme Court established in south India in its election manifesto.

It will also appeal to the electorate to extend support to such a political party.
