Jamia Millia to hold Indian Social Science Congress

Staff Reporter

The theme will be “The Indian Republic at the Crossroads”

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia is collaborating with the Indian Academy of Social Sciences to hold the 32nd session of the Indian Social Science Congress on the campus later this year.

The focal theme of the congress -- to be held between December 18 and 22 -- will be “The Indian Republic at the Crossroads”.

The congress will seek to comprehend the 60 years of growth of democratic republic of India as envisaged in the Constitution. It will make sense of the national and international contradictions in which the country finds itself today. The participants will also examine the relevance of Nehruvian, Gandhian and Ambedkar’s visions of India in these times.

The deliberations of the congress will cover a wide range of subjects within the broad framework of the focal theme.

A large number of delegates are expected to converge at Jamia to participate in talks, workshops, seminars, panel discussions and multiple working sessions. The delegates will comprise social scientists, scholars and researchers. In this connection, a pre-congress symposium was organised at Jamia this past week to fine-tune the deliberations for the event. Jamia Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan and IASS president S.P. Shukla attended the event.

Research scientists, university and college teachers, research students, social activists, policy makers/planners, independent thinkers and philosophers can present their papers at the congress.

The last date of submission of abstracts is September 15 and the full text of the paper must reach by November 3.
