INTERACTION: Electricity Minister Arcot N.Veeraswami with A. Kuppusamy, general secretary, LPF, and Singara Rathnasabapathy, general secretary, TNEB Stores Staff Union, at a function in Chennai on Sunday. CHENNAI: The salaries of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) employees will be revised within three months after the notification of the Sixth Pay Commission, according to Arcot N. Veeraswami, Electricity Minister. Mr. Veeraswami on Sunday inaugurated the TNEB Stores Staff Union building at Alwarpet and addressed the 11th State conference and 40th anniversary of the Union. “Prior to that, we will discuss the issue with board members in the next meeting and after obtaining permission from the Chief Minister, we will pay interim relief to the electricity department employees during Anna centenary year celebrations,” he said. The Minister said steps were being taken to establish Electricity Transmission Corporation in the State, but he ruled out forming separate generation or distribution corporations. “None of the TNEB employees would be compelled to join the Transmission Corporation and it has to be voluntary,” he said. A. Kuppuswamy, union general secretary, placed 19 resolutions that included among other things seeking recognition to Stores Staff Union, streamlining the working hours of various stores in the city, paying special allowance to senior staffer and seeking protection for stocks. Tamil Nadu Thozilalar Munnetra Sangham (Labour Progressive Front) general secretary Singara Rathnasabapathy urged the Minister to pay an interim relief of Rs. 500 per month from December 2007 onwards, fill vacancies and appoint Executive Director to manage the power situation in the State. Mr. Veeraswami said vacancies would be filled in the next three months and he would also talk to TNEB officials to streamline the working hours of the Society from 8 am to 5 pm. Apart from safeguarding the stocks at the Society, efforts would be made to insure them. He also assured the office bearers that recognition would be granted to Stores Staff Union.
