CPI (M)’s plea
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The State unit of the CPI (M) on Sunday said the government should not allow Thanjavur-based SASTRA University to start a law college as it was against the policy decision of the government.
In a statement here, State secretary N. Varadarajan said the management of the university had already approached the Supreme Court in this regard that No Objection Certificate (NoC) from state government was not required for starting the law college.
“The government should take legal steps to prevent the university from going ahead with the plan and ensure that law education is not commercialised in the State,” Mr. Varadarajan said.
He also condemned the police action against students of Tirunelveli medical colleges who protested against a private law college.
