CHENNAI: With only five days left for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group-I main examination, over 100 cases have been filed by aggrieved candidates after a recent judicial intervention. The Madras High Court on July 31 directed the TNPSC to allow 31 candidates who did not clear the preliminary test, to write the main examination. The candidates had prayed the court to direct the TNPSC to treat them as having passed the Group-I services preliminary examination 2006-07 conducted on December 23, 2007. All the 31 candidates had claimed that the marks awarded to them were lesser than the expected marks. This, according to them, was due to factual inaccuracies in questions asked in the examination and the erroneous key allegedly given for the questions. “As the Group-I selection is made after seven years and many of the candidates will not be able to appear for the next examination as their age may exceed the permissible limit, we are forced to file the writ petitions,” said one of the petitioners. The TNPSC has, however, claimed that the discrepancies pointed out by the candidates had already been rectified by seeking the opinion of a three-member expert committee. The TNPSC admitted that one of the questions mentioned by the candidates was not taken into account by the committee. Hence the High Court directed the candidates to submit all disputed questions before August 7 and directed the TNPSC to place all the disputed questions before an expert committee for verification. Final marksThe final marks of the candidates would be determined after the verification and the candidates would be declared successful if their score exceeded the cut-off marks.
