KOCHI: Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya (Thrikakkara, 68 points) won the overall team title in the Cusat Open inter-School chess tournament which concluded at the Cochin University here on Sunday. Angamaly’s Viswajyothi Public School finished runner-up with 48 points, while Vidyodaya (Thevakkal, 32) was third. Marygiri School’s J. Yohan won the individual honours in the High School section, while M. Arjun (Varuna Vidyalaya) and George Aditya Paul (St. Patrick’s) topped the UP and LP School categories. Dr Chandra Mohan Kumar, Registrar, Cusat, gave away the prizes. The results: Team championship: 1. Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya (Thrikakkara, 68), 2. Viswajyothi Public School, Angamaly (48), 3. Vidyodaya, Thevakkal (32). Individual champions (points from seven rounds): LP Schools: 1. George Aditya Paul (St. Patrick’s, Angamaly, 7 points), 2. Arijith (Viswajyothi, Angamaly, 5.5), 3. S. Anand (Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikakkara, 5.5). UP Schools: 1. M. Arjun (Varuna Vidyalaya, 6.5), 2. Naveen Babu (Varuna Vidyalaya, 6), 3. Arvind Nath Rajesh (Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, 6). High Schools: 1. J. Yohan (Marygiri School, Koothatukulam, 6), 2. Jude Antony Paul (St. Patrick’s, 5.5), 3. Vishnu Gopakumar (Varuna Vidyalaya, 5.5).
