PUDUCHERRY: Fortyseven students of Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir, Upplam, participated in the 6th Tamil Nadu State Yoga Sports Championship held at Gummidipoondi on August 3. Seshaakumar of Standard IV won the first prize and G. Pavithra of Standard III got the consolation prize in the championship. Four students — T.G. Sabarish, T.S. Ragul, Harish Aravind and Anoop N. Jain participated in the inter-school quiz competition held at St. Patric School. The school organised a parents’ meet on August 9 to discuss the new teaching methods and the introduction of new facilities such as mathematics lab, speed cards in English and Mathematics to improve the mental skills. Chief Mentor J. Arawindhan presided. Geetha chantingSeveral students of Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School won prizes at the ISCKON Geetha chanting competition held on August 10. While Banupriya and Anju of Standard VI won the first prize, V. Jayashree of standard VIII received first prize under Group C category. Also, Harith of Standard V got the second prize in the competition. To mark the World Anti-Global Warming Day on August 8, the school organised a special programme in which students participated in a quiz competition and made posters and charts highlighting the importance of conserving nature. The school also organised a magic show for their students. Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School organised a function on August 9 to honour the winners of the annual sports meet. Parish Priest of Reddiarpalayam distributed prizes to the winners. Rolling trophies were presented to Green House for emerging first in games and to Yellow House for coming first in Athletics. School Principal Father M.S. John Bosco welcomed the gathering and vice-principal R. Pascal Raj proposed a vote of thanks. The school introduced science and mathematics clubs in the primary school for the first time.
