School notes

Tirukkural Vizha

The Kannankurichi Government Higher Secondary School in Salem in association with the Silamboli Muthamizh Mandram celebrated Tirukkural Vizha recently. Speakers in the programmes explained a number of couplets to the students. They appealed to the students to try to learn all the couplets in Tirukkural. R.P. Sarathi donated a sum of Rs. 1 lakh for the construction of a school building during the occasion.

Sri Gokulam Hospital Managing Director Dr. K. Arthanari presided. Members of various organisations participated in the function. School Headmaster R. Srinivasan spoke.

Athletics meet

Students from Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS), Salem, bagged the overall second place in the Salem education district level athletics meet organised at Neelambal Subramaniam HSS in Salem. The winners from LFHSS included: Junior category: N. Dinesh Kumar (high jump), N. Kesavan (200 m running, discus throw); Senior category: D. Sampathkumar (shot put, 200 m and 100 m), N. Ramesh (100 m) M. Saravanan (400 m), Prasath (800 m), S. Sakthivel (discus throw, 4x100 m).Super Senior category: C. Gopinath (triple jump), N. Mohammed Azad (triple jump, 100 m, 200 m and long jump), G. David (discus throw), Arun (800 m, 1500 m), V. Alexraj (high jump), A. Kuzhanthai Yesu (200 m, 4x100 and 4x400). School Headmaster Fr. Arulappan congratulated the winners.

Winners

The team from Sri Vani Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thoppampatti in Namakkal, won the championship in the district level football event in the senior category. School management and teachers congratulated the team members.

Exhibition

The Rasi International School organised a week of flowers, vegetables and greens for the kindergarten classes recently.

Teachers explained about various flowers and vegetables to the tiny tots during the week. An exhibition was also organised for the children. School Chairman S. Sathiyamoorthi opened it. Principal D. Vidhyasagar was present. The school had planned to select a theme for learning every week.

‘Colour week’

National Model Matriculation Higher Secondary School celebrated its “Colour Week” with its kindergarten children recently. Each day, a new colour was introduced to the children. Students and the teachers dressed up in different colours and took part in various creative activities.

Eatables were distributed to the children and they sang rhymes on colours in English, Hindi and Tamil.

The colour celebrations are held in the school every year to make students aware of the symbolic relevance of colours.

Through a display of various objects in common colours, children become conscious of colours.
