We are operating savings accounts at Indian Bank, Vedaranyam, for more than 10 years and facing inconvenience for cash withdrawal due to overcrowding. The bank has issued 2,000 ATM cards to its customers since November 2007. The failure to commission the ATM is causing inconvenience. I request the Bank to commission its ATM immediately. P. Kamaraj, Vedaranyam. EncroachmentVegetable vendors have occupied the pedestrian space on one side of the Odampokki Bridge in Tiruvarur town. Autos are also parked here. Besides leading to frequent traffic jams, the encroachments also pose a threat to the general public. I request the authorities to take immediate steps to remove the encroachments. V. Dharmadoss, Tiruvarur. Train serviceI request the Southern Railway authorities to make necessary steps to introduce train service between Tiruvarur and Nagore. Velankanni shrine annual festival is going to be conducted by the end of this month and operating trains in this route will immensely help the devotees. R. Sivakumar, Poondi. No direct trainConsequent to gauge conversion works between Mayiladuturai-Villupuram section, there is no direct train service from Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Tiruthuraipoondi to Chennai. Therefore, passengers are left with no option to travel by bus. Aged and sick persons find it very difficult to travel long distances. It is suggested that a separate bogie for passengers may be attached to any express train from Thanjavur. R. Jambunathan, Tiruthuraipoondi. Water scarceAdirampattinam is one of the fast-growing towns. Most houses have high-power motors to pump drinking water. Excess potable water is used for various purposes. As a result, consumers without motor pumps cannot get adequate water. This happens despite surplus water being supplied by the Adirampattinam Town Panchayat. In some areas, the drinking water is salty and mixed with sewage water. I request the authorities to ensure supply of water to every household. A. Haja Abdul Khader, Adirampattinam. Milk adulterationState-wide raids conducted by public health officials on milk processing plants have confirmed large-scale adulteration and unhygienic storage conditions of milk distributed to consumers, and the adulterants used by the unscrupulous vendors are injurious to human health. Periodical surprise inspections at the processing units and distribution centres will help stem the menace. Vengarai S.Raman, Thanjavur. Buses for childrenTwo more State Transport Corporation town buses may be operated in all the routes in the morning and evening for school students. Hundreds of students are daily running to catch the buses with their bags on the back. It is a pathetic sight. K. Santhanam, Kumbakonam. Olympians as chief guestsI am happy to learn that three Olympians who represented India in various Olympics are serving in the central districts. I request the heads of the educational institutions to invite them as chief guests for the annual sports meets. Abuzaid Munavary, Thanjavur
