Pension for freedom fighters urged

NEW DELHI: Former MLA and member of the Screening Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters Mallu Swarajyam has urged UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to direct the Union Home Ministry to release pension to those freedom fighters from Andhra Pradesh who fought for the liberation of Hyderabad and its merger with the Indian Union in 1947-48. Though the Hyderabad Special Screening Committee and the Andhra Pradesh government had cleared the cases as early as 1997 the sanctioning process of the Union Home Ministry was getting delayed inordinately in the name of verification and re-verification, she said.
