Airport closed for IAF exercise
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi International Airport here was closed for two hours on Monday afternoon because of an air exercise by the Indian Air Force ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
Commercial flight operations were closed between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. “Airlines had prior information of this closure and had rescheduled their flight operations. Normal operations at Delhi airport resumed at 2-40 p.m.,” an airport source said.
Airline companies said they were aware of the exercise before hand and had made arrangements accordingly.
“This slot was chosen as there are fewer flights coming in and going out of Delhi around that time. There was no adverse impact of any kind on the operations,” said an airline official.
