Blasts plot: 3 produced before court

TIRUNELVELI: The police on Monday produced before a court three youths arrested recently for allegedly plotting to trigger a series of blasts in the State, especially Chennai and Tirunelveli.

Police sources said Shaik Abdul Gafoor of Pettai, S. Syed Kasim alias Heera of Tirunelveli town and Ali Abdullah alias Abdul Khader, a Puzhal prison inmate, planned to trigger low-intensity blasts to attract the attention of State and Central governments.

They also planned to target leaders of Hindu organisations and government officials.

Based on a tip-off, Gafoor was picked up from his house on July 27 with materials required for making a bomb. Subsequently the police arrested his associates Heera and Ali Abdullah.
