Landslide makes people prefer buses

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: With the landslide in the Sakleshpur-Gundia sector of Hassan district leading to cancellation of train services between Bangalore and Mangalore on Sunday, people are opting for a bus ride.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has deployed a few additional buses to cater to the extra rush, as the South Western Railway is expected to take two days to restore the track for normal operations.

KSRTC had deployed 14 extra buses to Bangalore on Sunday — eight from Mangalore, two from Puttur and four from Subramanya — to cater to the extra rush, according to KSRTC Mangalore Divisional Controller P.B. Karumbaiah.

He said depending upon the situation, KSRTC would deploy additional buses from Mangalore on Monday. From Bangalore, KSRTC had been deploying additional services as and when required.
