CHENNAI: Four persons allegedly involved in the serial killings that occurred in the Vadapalani, K.K. Nagar and Kumaran Nagar areas here in the past few weeks were arrested on Monday. With the arrest, the police claimed to have solved three cases of murder, including that of Karuppazhagi, 76, of Porur, a night watchman in an apartment. The police said a special team formed by Additional Director-General of Police and Commissioner R. Sekar to investigate the murders arrested V. Subbu alias Subramani, 26, and S. Nagarajan alias Karuppu Nagu, 26, last week. Based on their confession, the team picked up R. Rajesh, 20, of Kodambakkam, L. Rajan, 30, M. Rahim alias Abdul Rahim, 20, of Saidapet and R. Rajaprabhu alias Kullan, 23, of Puliurpuram on Sunday. ConfessionThe accused confessed to have murdered Karuppazhagi while he was sleeping in the apartment at Vadapalni on July 8. After causing the victim a head injury to make him unconscious, they took away Rs. 700 and a torchlight from him. Before escaping, they used petrol to burn the watchman, killing him on the spot. On July 13, the accused who went out in an autorickshaw to commit robbery spotted Mani alias Narayanan sleeping on the roadside. They killed him by stamping hard on his head repeatedly and took away his valuables. They were also involved in the murder of security guard Basha, the police said. A search was on to arrest A. Nagoor Meeran alias Vellai Nagu of Saidapet and R. Ramesh of Kodambakkam, who were also involved in the murders, the police said.
