Mr. Singh is now Director (Engineering) in Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL). His appointment is likely to be declared officially in a day or two. Official sources said the Search Committee had approved Mr. Singh’s name and the same had been cleared by the Power Ministry. The final notification was likely to be issued shortly, the sources added. Referring to the joint venture company, Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh said the joint venture would not be a government company and work would start immediately to bring in a partner which would ensure that the joint venture was a private company promoted by the two PSUs. This was aimed at giving the joint venture enormous managerial, commercial and technological flexibility. Mr. Ramesh said the joint venture would immediately focus on manufacture of balance of plant equipment mainly coal handling plants, ash handling plants and water demineralising plants.
