S. Badrinath. Chennai: Subramanium Badrinath is confident about cashing in on a hard earned opportunity in the Indian ODI squad. “I have more self-belief now. If I break into the eleven during the ODI series in Sri Lanka, I should do well,” he told The Hindu here on Monday. A consistent performer in the domestic circuit and for the India ‘A’ and Emerging sides in all forms of the game, Badrinath was a part of the Indian squad during the ODI series against Australia at home last season but did not get a game. He said: “The injury to Sachin Tendulkar is sad and it is very hard to step into his shoes. I am looking forward to the challenge of playing to the best of my ability.” Badrinath acknowledged that Sri Lanka possessed a quality spin attack. “It is a testing spin bowling combination. But I have the advantage of having faced Muttiah Muralitharan at the Chennai Super Kings nets. I want to have a closer look at Mendis in the videos once I get to Sri Lanka.” A fine fielder and a handy off-spinner, Badrinath seeks to expand his repertoire. “I have worked on my strokes, the innovations over the years. I have picked wickets for my club Jolly Rovers in the TNCA first division league with my off-spin. Fielding and fitness are always high on my priority list.”
