Notice to four managements

Staff Reporter

For failure to admit students on merit

Action against medical colleges by Mohammed panel

Sitting to be held on Thursday

KOCHI: The Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges, headed by P.A Mohammed, has issued notices to four private medical colleges asking why admission to the MBBS programme offered by them should not be cancelled for failing to admit students on merit. Explanation has also been sought for collecting additional fee from students.

The managements, which have also been asked to appear before the committee sitting to be held in Thiruvananthapuram on August 14, are Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Thiruvalla; Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolencherry; Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur; and Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur.

The committee issued a press release on Monday saying that it was found that the colleges failed to admit students on merit. It was also revealed that the managements collected fee beyond the limit fixed by the committee.

The committee found that the managements admitted students without informing the committee about the details regarding the admission process. The managements had violated the condition that the admission should be transparent and based on merit, the release said.

Besides the representatives of the four private medical colleges, the committee also asked the office-bearers of the Kerala Christian Professional College Management Federation to appear before the committee on August 14.
