CHANDIGARH: Justice Tirath Singh Thakur, Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, was on Monday sworn in as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court at a simple ceremony at the Haryana Raj Bhawan here by Haryana Governor A.R.Kidwai. Those present on the occasion included Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Bansal, Punjab Governor S.F. Rodrigues, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his Punjab counterpart Prakash Singh Badal, Haryana Chief Secretary Dharam Vir, Punjab Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh, Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister M.L.Tayal, Principal Secretary to Punjab Chief Minister D.S.Guru and Haryana Advocate General Hawa Singh. Judges and lawyers of Punjab and Haryana High Court and other senior civil and police officers of Punjab and Haryana Governments were also present. Mr. Justice Tirath Singh Thakur was born on January 4, 1952, at Batroo in tehsil of district Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir State. He was enrolled as a pleader in October 1972 and joined the chamber of his father late D.D.Thakur, who was a leading Advocate. He practised in civil, criminal, Constitutional, taxation and service matters in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court at Jammu and Srinagar and was the standing counsel among others for Income Tax Department, University of Jammu, Board of School Education and Reserve Bank of India.
