CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R.Kidwai on Monday administered the oath of office and secrecy to four new members of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) at a simple ceremony at the Haryana Raj Bhavan here. The new members are Bharat Bhushan Batra, R.D. Sheokand,M.P.Bidlan and Prem Prakash. While Mr.Batra is a leading advocate of Rohtak and Mr.Prem Prakash is an Advocate of Gohana, Mr.Sheokand and Mr.Bidlan are former bureaucrats. Mr.Sheokand was currently serving as Additional Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister. An official spokesman said that Mr. Batra would act as Chairman of the Commission. Those present on the occasion included Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, President of Haryana unit of Congress Phool Chand Mullana, Ministers, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharambir and senior officers of the State Government. It may be recalled that Dr. Kidwai had over the weekend suspended all the nine members of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) including its Chairman M.S. Saini, all appointed by the erstwhile Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Government, after President Pratibha Patil accepted a presidential reference by the present Haryana Government seeking removal of the Commission on the basis of “complaints” that it had “indulged in manipulations while making key appointments”. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday expressed hope that the Centre would soon lift the ban on the export of PUSA 1121 variety of the paddy. In an informal chat with the media after the swearing in ceremony of four new members of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), he said that he had recently met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath and pleaded for the immediate lifting of the ban.
