SKILLED INVESTIGATIONS: Coimbatore City Police get exclusive Cyber Crime Wing to investigate and detect cyber crimes. – Coimbatore: The State Government sanctioned the formation of a separate cyber crime cell at the office of the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore, and has sanctioned funds and staff for the same. At present, the State has only two cyber crime cells – at the Chennai City Police and the Crime Branch CID. The proposal was to form cyber crime cells at Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore to be led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police with one Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, two Head Constables and four Grade-I Constables. The City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, told The Hindu that the Government Order stated that the cell was sanctioned considering the growth of the Information Technology industry and the growth of Coimbatore city. The Government has allotted Rs 6.45 lakhs towards non-recurring expenditures such as buying furniture, communication gadgets, a jeep, a motor cycle and cyber crime investigation kit. The payscales of staff have been fixed and Rs. 60,900 sanctioned towards fuel and telephone charges. The staff will be given special training to acquire skills for the scientific and systematic handling of cyber crime and technology-related offences, Mr.Mahali said.
