The hole drilled on the wall of a cellphone shop in East Tambaram where burglary was committed. TAMBARAM: Mobile handsets, a laptop and cash were stolen burgled from a cellphone shop in East Tambaram. The burglary came to light when the staff opened the shop on Velachery Main Road on Monday morning. The Selaiyur police said Kesavan, who was running a True Value Shoppe of Tata Indicom, went to Thiruvannamalai with his family members on Saturday. Two of his employees closed down the shop on Saturday evening. They opened shutters on Monday morning to notice empty boxes of the handsets strewn on the floor. They found a gaping hole on the wall of the shop and alerted Kesavan. He lodged a complaint at the Selaiyur police station. More than 50 handsets, Rs.27,000 in cash and a laptop were stolen from the shop and the combined value is reported to be over Rs.2 lakh. Apart from Selaiyur police, special teams of the Chennai Suburban Police are also investigating as this is third such offence reported since July 19. A Nokia priority showroom on Shanmugham Road in West Tambaram was targeted by burglars on July 19 after its wall was drilled. On August 5, a cellphone store in Sholinganallur was broken into by burglars by employing a similar modus operandi. In all these incidents, burglars drilled holes into the shop’s rear walls.
