Insect menace

Warehousing Corporation is located on the outskirts of K. K. Nagar where a large quantity of food grains are piled up for public distribution. Insects are breeding in large numbers and spreading to adjoining houses. I request the authorities to take preventive steps.

Bank branch needed

The proposal to open a new branch of State Bank of India at No.1 Tollgate (Kollidam) is welcome. Manachanallur is the taluk headquarters of Manachanallur and without a State Bank of India branch. It is also the business hub of agricultural-based industries. The opening of a branch here would be of immense help to the trading community, serving government employees, pensioners, school teachers and general public.

Duped depositors

Thousands of gullible depositors _ most of whom are senior citizens _ were cheated by M/s. MCC Finance limited (MAC group) Chennai to the tune of Rs.165 crore. By the swift action taken by police, the depositors were fortunate to get back 65 per cent of their investment in five instalment between 2001 and 2005. But they are yet to get the balance despite a lapse of three years.

The Additional Director General of Police, EOW, Chennai, is requested to take steps to attach properties of the financial company in Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Vadodara, Delhi, etc. and auction it to pay off the depositors.

P. Paramasivam,

President, M.C.C. Finance Depositors’ Welfare Association, Tiruchi.

Sweating in berth

Recently, I happened to travel to Chennai by the Rockfort Express where I was allotted a side middle berth .

In that berth, no ventilation is provided and the fan is of no help. The authorities should install fans with oscillation facility.

Corruption

I visited the Vadavalli Sub-Registrar’s office in Coimbatore district recently where I found the document writers quoting the amount payable by way of illegal gratification to the assistants and the officials for speedy registration process. I do not know whether the Sub-Registrar is aware of this. There are simlar complaints in other Sub–Registrars offices, criminal and civil courts. The Collectors should make surprise inspections to the government departments to check such corruption.

P. S. Subrahmanian,

Srirangam.

No warning board

The NHAI has made many diversions on the Tiruchi–Thanjavur national highway to facilitate the ongoing four-laning works. Unfortunately, proper warning boards and danger lights have not been installed at all these places. This has caused much anxiety to the vehicle users, particularly during night.

Why discrimination?

There were two reports on August 7, regarding study aid for students. One is for rural poor students where they will get Rs, 1,000 per year provided the annual income of their parent does not exceed Rs. 12,000. Who can make a living with their family with Rs. 12,000 per year nowadays?

There is another report about educational aid for students of minority community whose parents income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh, where a student will get Rs. 20,000 per year and a special grant of Rs.10,000 or Rs. 5,000 for maintenance. Why discriminate between rural poor and minority community students? What a paradox!

Dr. V. Ramaprasad,

Dindigal Road.
