COLLECTOR’S DELIGHT: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi with former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University M. Anandakrishnan; Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan; CPI (M) MP T.K.Rengarajan and Dravida Kazhagam general secretary K. Veeramani, at the release of ‘Kalaignarin Sattamanra Uraigal,’ in Chennai on Monday. CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday made a fervent appeal to the communist parties to preserve the camaraderie with the DMK and the Congress in Tamil Nadu. Addressing a function organised to release the translation of his poetry and compilation of speeches in the Assembly, Mr. Karunanidhi said the communists should not turn their anger against the Congress in some other State towards the Congress in Tamil Nadu. Stating that people had understood the contribution made by the DMK and the communist parties and their efforts to prevent the emergence of the BJP, he said, “Let us not disappoint the people.” Mr. Karunanidhi recalled the agitation launched by him and communist leaders, including the late Kalyanasundaram, in the Kulithalai constituency, from where he was first elected to the Assembly, to tackle farmers’ problems. Stating that he never made any speech in the Assembly in a casual way and whatever he uttered was from his heart, the Chief Minister said legislators should practise many times before delivering a speech in the Assembly. CPI(M) MP T.K.Rengarajan, Congress whip Peter Alphonse and CPI Legislature Party leader V. Sivapunniyam spoke. The poetry collection was released by Bharthiyar University Vice-Chancellor G. Vasagam. The first copy was received by DMK MP Tiruchy Siva. The Assembly speech collections were released by former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University M. Anandakrishnan.
