‘No dearth of funds for flood relief’

Bangalore: The State Government has taken up adequate flood relief measures in the districts of Bijapur, Belgaum and Shimoga and has released Rs. 100 crore for each of the districts.
According to a press release issued by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the Government would release an additional amount of Rs. 40 crore to each of the districts for relief works. “There is no dearth of funds for relief measures,” the release said.
Following the release of 2.20 lakh cusecs of water from Koyna and Ved Ganga dams by Maharashtra, steps have been taken to prevent any further damage to life and property in the affected areas. Nearly 2.4 lakh cusecs of water has been released from Alamatti dam.
The district authorities have deployed 63 boats to rescue people from the inundated areas in Chikkodi, Hukkeri and Khanapur taluks of Belgaum district. As many as 110 families have been relocated to safe places. Six food camps have been set up for the affected families, the release said.
