All-party meet on Amarnath land row inconclusive

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: A meeting of the leaders of an all-party delegation, who visited Jammu and Srinagar last week in a bid to find solution to the Amarnath land row, was held here on Monday but it failed to reach any consensus. They will meet again in the Home Ministry on Tuesday. Talking to journalists after the meeting, which lasted for nearly 90 minutes, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil said the talks were inconclusive.

Meeting today

The leaders would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday and “a decision will be taken then,” Mr. Patil said.

Leaders of 36 parties met the Prime Minister on August 6 and it was decided that an all-party delegation visit the State and talk to Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading a more than month-long protests in Jammu against cancellation of land allotment made to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).

‘Implement court order’

On Monday, the delegation members made various suggestions to resolve the dispute, but the Bharatiya Janata Party, represented by Arun Jaitley, is learnt to have emphasised that the Jammu and Kashmir High Court order be implemented.

According to the Division Bench order, the land will be handed over to the SASB for two months of yatra, during when pre-fabricated structures can be erected. However, land ownership will remain unchanged.
