KATHMANDU: Four months after the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections were held, Nepal will have a government soon, with the election of the Prime Minister slated for August 15. The date was announced by the Constituent Assembly chairman Subhash Nembang on Monday. The nominations for the poll, he said, would have to be filed on August 14. “If [the] parties agree to elect a candidate unanimously, the result will be known on Thursday,” said Cabinet Secretariat spokesperson Mukunda Raj Sharma, adding: “Else, it will be disclosed by the legislative meeting of the Constituent Assembly on Friday.” As per the interim Constitution, the Prime Minister can be elected by a simple majority of the CA. After the Maoists and Nepali Congress (NC) remained rigid on their claim over the Defence Ministry, it is almost certain the NC would stay in opposition.
