THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ongoing indefinite fast launched by the members of the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association demanding the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital city will complete six months on Tuesday. Recalling the efforts taken by the action council, the members urged the representatives of political parties associated with the campaign to expedite the proceedings. A release issued by the Bar Association said the State government had already made budgetary allocation for the proposed Bench and a representation demanding the same had been sent to the Governor and the President, by the State government. Citing a remark made by Parsuram Uparkar, a Shiv Sena MLA from Maharashtra who addressed the protesting lawyers recently, the members of the association expressed disappointment over the “prolonged and indefinite nature of the struggle for a public cause.” Mr. Uparkar, alluding to the indefinite nature of struggle by the lawyers, had wondered what the plight of less organised groups such as farmers would be. The association urged all supporters of the campaign to join hands to take advantage of the favourable climate that had evolved for the constitution of the Bench.
