Satyam to hire 15,000 people

Staff Correspondent

Looking at people branding

S. V. Krishnan

CHENNAI: Brand building has become the in thing for all the information technology companies. Satyam Computer Services is no exception. Today, the company is looking at both people branding and organisational branding for its image boost, according to S. V. Krishnan, Head-Human Resources.

In a chat with presspersons, Mr. Krishnan said people branding would be done by creating the organisation as the preferred destination to work, while organisational brand was done by providing a suitable solution or process to its clients. Most of the companies were looking at brand building in a big way. Satyam’s association with Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) would give a mileage for the company’s brand.

On the attrition front, he said given the current economic and political scenarios, attrition had come down considerably.

Last year, the attrition rate in Satyam was 13 per cent and this year it hoped to be less than 12 per cent. However, the company was working on various methodologies to retain the fresher. Though it had nearly 3-4 per cent on the bench, it would considerably cut down the bench in the coming years. He said with the current economic situation, the IT industry might have more involuntary attrition when compared to voluntary one.

Mr. Krishnan said the industry would see some stagnation in the recruitment in the first two quarters. Satyam would be hiring 12,000-15,000 people in the current fiscal as compared to 16,600 last fiscal, of which 40-45 per cent would be fresher for current year.

Revenue from North America was less than 60 per cent; Europe/U.K. 21 per cent and the rest from the Middle East and Asia Pacific, he said.
