Sridevi BBM College in last four
MANGALORE: Sridevi BBM College reached the semifinals of the Independence Cup Football tournament in the Degree College section, while St. Aloysius College and Rozario teams reached the last four in PU College section.
The results: PU Colleges: St. Aloysius ‘B’ (Mlr) bt Govinddasa College (Srathkal) 3-0; Rozario ‘B’ (Mlr) bt Milagres (Mlr) 4-2 (in tie-breaker); St. Aloysius ‘A’ (Mlr) bt Badriya ‘A’ (Mlr) 3-0; Rozaria ‘A’ (Mlr) bt Sharada Vidyalaya (Mlr) 3-0.
Degree Colleges: Sridevi BBM (Mlr) bt Srinivasa ‘B’ (Mlr) 3-1 (in tie-breaker); St. Philomna (Mlr) bt Alvas College (Moodbidri) 2-1.
Thej Kumar wins
M.S. Thej Kumar of South Western Railway was declared the winner in the individual category of the 21st all-India Railway chess championship with seven points (39.5 progressive score) from nine rounds at Hubli on Monday.
He drew his final round game against Prakash Ram of Northern Railway that lasted three-and-a-half hours.
B.T. Murali Krishnan of Southern Railway also tallied seven points but was placed second with a progressive score of 32.5 points. Laltu Chattarjee of Eastern Railway finished third, while Shashikant Kutwal of Western Railway was fourth. All the four players have qualified for the National ‘B’ championship at Goa in September.
