Rain fury continues in Uttara Kannada

SIRSI: Nearly 500 people were shifted from Kargejug to Halga near Karwar on Monday following fear of floods owing to rising level in the Kali.

A gruel centre has been started at Halga for the affected people.

Minister for Fisheries Anand Asnotikar, Deputy Commissioner H.K. Govindraj and Assistant Commissioner Vijay Mahantesh visited Kargejug on Monday.

In Ankola, three houses collapsed on Monday when a tree fell on them. As many as 300 people from Shirur, Belage, Vasarkundargi on the banks of the Gunjawati have been shifted to safety.

In Kumta taluk, Mangala Shankar Ambiga (22) of Mudagudda was washed away in floods on Monday night.

Houses collapse

As many as 14 houses have collapsed in Hegde, Gokarn and Bargi villages in the taluk.

In Sirsi taluk, Madura (4) was injured when a tree fell on a house at Jaganalli on Sunday.

Water-level in the Kadra reservoir reached 33.69 m on Monday as against the maximum level of 34.5 m. Inflow into the reservoir was 58,229 cusecs. Water-level in the Kodasalli reservoir reached 74.55 m on Monday as against the maximum level of 75.5m. Inflow into the reservoir was 17,097 cusecs.

In Siddapur taluk, a hanging bridge across the Aghanashini collapsed as the water-level increased.

Bhatkal taluk received a record rainfall of 200 mm.

On Monday, Bhatkal taluk received 200 mm rainfall, Siddapur - 172 mm, Ankola - 152 mm, Ramnagara in Joida received 140 mm rainfall and Mundgod taluk recorded 38.2 mm rainfall.
