“Capital region needs more than one airport” Will ease congestion at IGI airport: Hooda CHANDIGARH: The demand for setting up of an International Airport within the National Capital Region (NCR) falling in Haryana raised by Rohtak Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda may soon turn into a reality. The Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation, which met in New Delhi on Monday, suggested the setting up of an International Airport at Jhajjar in Haryana as it felt that Delhi required more than one airport. It may be recalled that Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda, the son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had in December last sought intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in setting up of a greenfield airport-cum-cargo air complex within the NCR falling in Haryana at Jhajjar. Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda said that he has thanked the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for validating his plea regarding the setting up of an international airport at Jhajjar. He said that the new airport would not only ease congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, but would also give a boost to the economy in the region. Also, it would fulfill a long standing demand of the people of Haryana. He further said that he was grateful to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the Union Cabinet’s recent decision to relax the condition for setting up of greenfield airports within the radius of 150 kms from the existing airport. Meanwhile, addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a sub- station at village Brahman Majra near Panipat, Mr.Deepender Singh Hooda said that the Haryana Government had made a capital expenditure plan of Rs.200 crore for the next three years to strengthen power transmission and distribution network in Panipat district. He reiterated that the Government was making efforts to make available adequate power to the consumers.
