Familiar faces in Congress poll committee for Rajasthan

Special Correspondent

New panel has all the Union Ministers from the State

Party MLA from Tijara is member of all three poll panels

JAIPUR: The 23-member election committee, announced by the All India Congress Committee for the election bound Rajasthan on Tuesday, has almost all the familiar names which have already figured in the two previous committees— the coordination committee announced in February and the manifesto committee, announced last week.

The new committee has all the Union Ministers from the State - Sis Ram Ola, Namo Narain Meena and Santosh Bagrodia - besides the other two Lok Sabha members of the party -Karan Singh Yadav and Sachin Pilot and Rajya Sabha member, Prabha Thakur - and there are at least a dozen leaders who are in both the committees while half a dozen in all three.

The Congress secretaries from Rajasthan-Harendra Mirdha, Jitendra Singh and Sanjay Bafna-are members of both the coordination and the election committees.

Pradesh Congress Committee president C.P.Joshi, who will head the new committee, is the chairman of the coordination committee as well while the working president Parasram Mordia is member of both.

Mr. B.D.Kalla, former PCC president, who is the chairman of the manifesto committee, is a member of the other two committees as well.

The former Chief Ministers, Ashok Gehlot and Jagannath Pahadia, are members of both the coordination and the election committee and so are the two former Deputy Chief Ministers, Kamla and Banwarilal Bairwa.

Hema Ram Choudhary, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly is a member in both the committees.

Former Speaker Parsram Maderna, who has been keeping away from active politics for sometime, is figuring in two committees.

Former Minister Shanti Dhariwal is there in two committees while the chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Girija Vyas has found her way to the present committee indicating her return to active politics.

Former Member of Parliament and party MLA from Tijara in Alwar district Imamuddin Ahmed has the distinction of being member of all the three committees while a new face in the committees is the former Minister and Meo leader, Choudhary Tayyab Hussain.

Balancing act

The current balancing act includes the accommodation of former PCC chief Narain Singh and the former Leader of the Opposition Ramnarain Choudhary, both from the Shekhawati region.

While there is no denying that all prominent leaders of the Congress in Rajasthan are in the committees there is also feeling that more leaders could have been accommodated broad basing the party’s decision making processes in the crucial aspects of election strategies--preparation of the manifesto, selection of candidates and the campaign.
