BERHAMPUR: The agitating students of the government nursing college in the city agreed to defer their stir for few months on Tuesday. With it the nursing college, which had been locked up by the budding nurses since last five days would again reopen on Wednesday. The girls had ransacked portions of their institute and had locked up following the disappearance of a third year student who had failed in examination, from the hostel. RestrictionsThe students took up this chance to put forward their other long-standing demands including hike in the stipend of fourth year nursing students. They are demanding their stipend to be increased to Rs. 5,000 per month from present rate of Rs. 1,500. They also demanded the removal of their principal, Amrita Lenka from the post. The students had not called off their strike even after the missing student returned back. Efforts by the administrative officials and Vice-Chancellor of the Berhampur University to pacify the students had failed. On Tuesday a delegation of the students held a long discussion with the principal in the presence of the Berhampur tehsildar, Sangram Panda.
