Nurturing students’ spirit of enquiry

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: “Education should ultimately cause transformation or result in better living. Such an exhibition is a step in that direction,” N. Nagaraju, joint secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Chennai Region, said here on Tuesday.

He was delivering the valedictory address at the ‘Regional Level CBSE Science Exhibition’ that concluded at SBOA School and Junior College.

The CBSE always emphasised the importance of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Such exhibitions provided a good learning experience and exposure to students, he said. “Students are encouraged to make enquiries. They raise questions and attempt finding answers with help from their peers and teachers,” Mr. Nagaraju said.

He commended SBOA, the host school, for the systematic conduct of the event. President of the SBIOA Educational Trust D. Sureshkumar who spoke earlier said such exhibitions gave children an opportunity to think about issues such as pollution.

Exhibition

In all, 270 students from schools in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh showcased as many as 90 projects at the two-day exhibition. The top 15 teams were shortlisted to take part in the national level science exhibition to be held in New Delhi later this year. SBOA principal J.M. Sathyakumari read out the list of selected teams.
