URUMQI (Xinjiang): Three security staff were killed and another injured on Tuesday in an attack at a checkpoint near Kashi City, in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said the local security authority. The attack occurred at the road checkpoint in Yamanya Town of Shule County, said the police. The whereabouts of the attacker was not immediately available. Four security personnel were stabbed by an assailant who jumped off from a vehicle at the checkpoint. The town is about 30 km away from Kashi, where a raid on border police on August 4 left 16 policemen dead and 16 injured. No evidence has been found suggesting a connection between the two incidents, said the police. The tourism industry in Xinjiang is set to suffer after a string of bomb attacks, said a county official in Kuqa on Tuesday. Yusufujiang Memet said the attacks could harm the fledgling tourist industry in the mostly Uygur county, which hosted 8,50,000 visitors last year. “The terrorist attacks will definitely have a negative effect on tourism in Kuqa." — Xinhua
