St. Joseph’s men triumph

Chennai: St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and MOP Vaishnav College emerged winners in the men’s and women’s sections respectively in the Sri Raghavendra inter-Collegiate basketball tournament on Monday.

International stars Wilson Cherian (Southern Railway) and Shiny Wilson (FCI) gave away the prizes in the presence of Dr. Babu Manoharan, Director, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering.

The results:

Men: Final: St. Joseph’s bt Loyola 52-33. Earlier results: Loyola bt Malabar Christian College (Kozhikode) 61-52; St. Joseph’s bt St. Joseph’s (Bangalore) 59-51; St. Joseph’s bt Malabar CC 68-54; Loyola bt St. Joseph’s (Bangalore) 56-48; St. Joseph’s (Bangalore) bt Malabar CC 51-48.

Women: MOP Vaishnav bt Mount Carmel (Bangalore) 48-34; St. Joseph’s bt Ethiraj 66-62; Mount Carmel bt Ethiraj 65-62; MOP bt St. Joseph’s 55-29; MOP bt Ethiraj 65-49; Mount Carmel bt St. Joseph’s 43-23.

TT tournament

Jawahar Vidyalaya SSS will sponsor the JVS Rao Memorial State-ranking and JSV Rao Memorial inter-school table tennis tournament at the SDAT-AKG Hall, Nehru Stadium. The inter-school tournament will be held on August 13 and 14 and the eighth State-ranking tournament will be held from August 15 to 17.

The tournament, co-sponsored by Stree Seva Mandir, will be organised by Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association.

Gymnastics trials

Direct State trials to select the Tamil Nadu contingent in gymnastics (u-14, 17, 19) for the SGFI National meet will be held on August 16 at 7.30 a.m. at the Thirumathi Lakshmi Loganathan Matriculation school, Arcot (Vellore District).

Interested must report at the venue on August 15 by 5 p.m. with original age-proof certificates issued by Head of the Institution. Contact the Game in-charge S. Kesavan, ph: 94433 47233 for details.
