Bus strike from today

KOCHI: Private bus workers in Kochi will go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday morning, demanding fair wages fixed by the State government.

This follows a call given by the Private Bus Workers’ Co-ordination Committee. Buses coming to Kochi from mofussil areas and districts will terminate service in the suburbs. The general secretary of the Private Bus Thozhilali Federation (AITUC), Joy Joseph, said talks held on Tuesday with bus owners, in the presence of the district labour officer, ended in a stalemate. Private buses from Guruvayoor will end service at Patalam and those coming from Kottayam and eastern parts, at Mulanthuruthy and Poothotta. Buses from Kothamangalam and Perumbavur will wind he service at Pallikkara and Kizhakkambalam and those from Chertala at Aroor.
