Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched repair works of battered roads in full swing from Monday night much to the relief of city commuters. Workers of GHMC from 23 engineering divisions were pressed into action after Commissioner C.V.S.K. Sarma inspected various worn out roads in the city. Badly damaged stretches at Punjagutta, Ameerpet, Yousufguda, Masab Tank, Attapur, Aramghar, Chandrayangutta, Ramanthapur and Uppal were identified where repair works would be completed within a few days, said Mr. Sarma. The stretches were being cleared of water, gravel and loose sand in the identified areas. The re-laying of tar too started on Monday afternoon after it stopped raining. Lorries were seen dumping small heaps of sand at Rethibowli crossroads to cover up the numerous potholes which were obstructing traffic flow during peak hours. Some of the important stretches such as the road near the Chief Minister’s Camp Office leading to Ameerpet sported a new patch of tar on Tuesday morning, easing traffic flow in the area. Signs of temporary restoration were visible at a few stretches in Punjagutta, Ameerpet and Uppal with potholes being filled with bitumen ready mix cement and gravel. M. Rajeshwar Rao, Additional Commissioner (Works), GHMC, said that over a thousand potholes were identified in each engineering division in the corporation limits, where works are being taken up in full flow for the convenience of the motorists.
