KOCHI: Life saving drugs need to be free of all taxes, said the representatives of the All-Kerala Chemists and Druggists Association (AKCDA) here. Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, K. Sahadevan, State president of the association and K. Sasisankaran, general secretary, demanded that the government withdraw taxes, amounting to about 25 per cent, to check the prices of drugs. Earlier, the State government used to waive tax on drugs like insulin, but with the application of value added taxes, all drugs have come under the tax ambit, Mr. Sahadevan said. If the government withdraws tax, the prices will come down by 25 per cent, he said.
