NEW DELHI: Five persons, including a jeweller, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police in connection with over half a dozen highway robberies in and around the Capital. Two gold chains, four gold rings, a gold pendant, six mobile phones and some sedatives have allegedly been recovered from them. The accused -- Gabbar, Sumit, Raj Kumar and Sushil-- would stand at Mukarba Chowk posing as passengers with a luggage and trap luxury car drivers willing to offer lift to make some money. After travelling some distance, the accused would ask the driver to stop at some roadside eatery and offer him a beverage laced with sedatives. The driver would then be thrown out of the car and the accused would drive away. According to the police, the four would then offer lift to passengers outside the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus in the stolen luxury car and rob them of their belongings such as cell phones, wallet and debit and credit cards, at gun-point. The accused would drive around withdrawing money from ATMs and shopping with credit cards and kept the victim hostage all this while. The victim would eventually be dumped at an isolated place. A Special Operations Squad team under the supervision of Udaiveer Singh Rathi arrested the four at Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus on Monday. Devesh Digwal of Karol Bagh was later arrested at their instance for allegedly receiving the robbed jewellery.
