PUDUCHERRY: Alliance Francaise and the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Puducherry, present the second edition of “fete de la Musique de Pondichery” on August 16. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Director of Alliance Francaise Michel Houdayer said the music festival was a grand success last year. The fest would have groups performing Tamil folk, classical folk music, rock folk with Indian influence, classical Indo-French fusion, jazz fusion from France and rock, he said. As a new concept, Alliance Francaise had opened the festival to student groups. A group from the Department of Performing Arts of Pondicherry University and another from Bharathiyar Palkalai Koodam would perform. Professional groups, including 3D, Taranti, Suryan and Tobias, Sharik Hasan Trio and LBG, would perform at the fete de la Musique de Pondichery. “A French violinist will perform with two Indian musicians. This comes as a symbol of relationship between the two countries. We want to promote Indian artists,” he said. The music fiesta would start at 5 p.m. at the Maison Colombani. Minister of Education, Art and Culture M.O.H.F. Shahjahan would inaugurate the festival.
