Legal Aid building inaugural on Sunday

ALL NEW: The building for the District Legal Aid Services Authority in Pudukottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: The new building for the office of the District Legal Aid Services Authority (Satta Udhavi Maiyam) will be declared open by Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly at the Public Office campus here on August 17.

It houses a spacious Lok Adalat hall, exclusive chambers for the Chairman and Secretary of the Authority besides separate rooms for Counselling Centre and preservation of records.

The building, sanctioned from the ‘Member of Parliament Local Area Development Fund’ at an expenditure of Rs.23 lakh, has been a long pending demand.

Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy and Rajya Sabha MP Su. Thirunavukkarasar had sanctioned Rs.13 lakh and Rs.10 lakh respectively from the Fund.

The new building will be a boon both to the authorities and the public.

Since its inception in 1982, the office was accommodated in a portion of a building at the Public Office campus which was not spacious enough for routine administration.

Judges of the Madras High Court, Justice S. J. Mukhopadhaya who is also the Executive Chairman of Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, Chennai; and Justice S. Rajeshwaran who is the Portfolio Judge for Pudukottai district, and the Principal District Judge, Pudukottai, K. Jayasankaran, will participate. Mnister for Law and Public Works Durai Murugan will preside over the function.
