Khanduri hopeful of solving crisis

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: The beleaguered Uttarakhand Chief Minister, B.C. Khanduri, has said that he would resign if the Bharatiya Janata Party high command asked him to do so.

Talking to newspersons after returning from New Delhi, Mr Khanduri admitted that there were some problems within the Legislature Party but hoped to sort them out amicably over the next few days. Meanwhile the State BJP president, Bachi Singh Rawat, who was summoned to New Delhi on Tuesday is expected to return with some peace formula so that the party and the Government could once again function normally, party sources said. The dissident Ministers when contacted felt that the crisis may get solved after the meeting to be convened by Mr Rawat later this week.

It may be mentioned that 24 out of 36 BJP MLAs led by former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiary had approached the party president Rajnath Singh, L.K. Advani and several other leaders earlier this week seeking the replacement of Mr Khanduri by a leader who was easily accessible to them and restore confidence of the people in the party before the general polls.

Mr Advani had told Mr Koshiary to keep the dissent under control for the time being. Mr Khanduri had also been asked to sort out differences with the dissidents.
