Latitude laptops from Dell

NEW DELHI: Dell Inc on Wednesday launched a series of Latitude laptops, including its lightest ultramobile commercial laptop. The Dell E6400 with a starting price of Rs. 54,990 has a battery life of 19 hours on a single charge.

The company said it expected revenues from India to touch $1 billion by the end of next fiscal. Dell’s revenue from India will be $800 million in 2008. The company had in the last quarter the company achieved a 75 per cent growth in revenue in from the country. “On an average Dell’s revenue grew 50 per cent year-on- year in every quarter. On a current rate, we should be able to achieve $1 billion revenue by 2009,” Dell Asia Pacific Vice President Marketing, Sam Burd told reporters here.

Dell Chairman and CEO Michael Dell, who was here to launch new devices, said the sales of notebooks have not been affected by the economic downturn in the U.S. “When companies are under cost pressure people look for ways for becoming more productive. I do think the industry growth will be healthy. But I expect Dell to grow faster than the industry,” he added.

The U.S.-based firm also added the Latitude E6400 ATG, a semi-rugged laptop that starts at Rs. 69,990. It also announced the launch of ultra portable laptops, including the Latitude E4200, which comes with a 12.1-inch screen and weighs just under 1 kg. Coinciding with the launch of new laptops, Dell also launched a community site called Digital Nomads. Community members could read about other digital nomads and share ideas.
