Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has decided to set apart 25 per cent of its municipal budget to provide basic amenities to urban poor and to enact Community Participation Law, Public Disclosure Law and Rationalise Rent Control Act, in order to continue the process of urban reforms. A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting preside over by Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda here to review the implementation of various schemes of Central Government concerning Urban Local Bodies Department. While reviewing the implementation of urban reforms, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies, S.C. Chaudhary, said that out of 18 functions contained in 12th schedule, 12 have already been transferred to Urban Local Bodies. Hurry pending worksThe Chief Minister asked the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies to get the process of approvals of the Central Government for the pending projects expedited. It was also decided to construct a “Palika Bhawan” at Panchkula to house the office of Urban Local Bodies Department and fill vacancies of various posts in the department to ensure its smooth functioning. The Chief Minister appreciated that the performance of the State in implementing Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rojgar Yojna (SJSRY) has been best in the country during last three years. It was also decided at the meeting that the Urban Local Bodies Department would tie up with the Technical Education Department for more effective implementation of SJSRY as the scheme aims at enabling the poor people to undertake self employment ventures by imparting them training and providing financial assistance for the same. –PTI
