25 per cent seats in the teachers’ training programmes for Saharia tribe in their area Concessions in land allotment for colleges and laboratories of Indian systems of medicine JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Cabinet on Wednesday approved a decision to amend the State Municipal Council Act, 1959, to enhance reservation for women from 33 per cent to 50 per cent in the urban local bodies. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had announced the decision as a step towards women’s empowerment in this year’s Budget speech. A Cabinet meeting presided over by Ms. Raje on the Rajasthan Agricultural University premises in Bikaner observed that the decision would facilitate giving adequate representation to women as the heads of urban bodies, such as Mayor of Municipal Corporation, Chairperson of Municipal Council, and municipal councillors. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore said the State Cabinet also decided to name the Bikaner Agricultural University after the erstwhile ruler of Bikaner princely State, Ganga Singh, Rajasthan Agricultural University after Swami Keshawanand, and the Government College, Khetri, after Swami Vivekanand. Among other decisions, the State Cabinet said that 25 per cent of the seats in the teachers’ training programmes in the Saharia tribe-dominated areas in Baran district would be reserved for the local people and special concessions in land allotment provided to the medical centres, colleges and laboratories of Indian systems of medicine. The Cabinet also approved a scheme for allotment of developed land in lieu of the land surrendered by individuals for establishing various units of Krishi Upaj Mandi Samitis. Mr. Rathore said the State Police Rules would be amended to promote police inspectors as deputy superintendents of police in recognition of their outstanding services. The meeting was held in Bikaner in view of this year’s State-level Independence Day function being organised in the division town.
